As my editorial is based on the rose and how it was used as a way for lords and ladies to represent affection back in the Victorian Era, I wanted my booklet to have an organic and handmade element to it to reflect how these flowers would be sent along with a heartfelt letter or greeting card. Therefore, I decided to experiment with printing my editorial on either tissue paper, or vellum to allow the readers to be able to really observe the collages above that I have made for the background. To prep for printing , I have decided to make mock ups to get dimensions of where to place my text on the page to which compliments my collages.

And because I wanted my editorial booklet to hold an element of fragility which reflected the flowers, I have also decided to forgo staples and book bind using thread. Because I have never book binded before, I decided to look up tutorials on the internet and decided to go with stitching. However, when tried on a piece of scrap tracing paper, I found that the needle would leave big holes within the paper and due to the paper itself being quite thin, stitching the booklet would make it very fragile. Therefore, I have decided to staple the booklet instead.

Because the language of flowers originated in the Victorian Era, I decided to give my booklet a hard cover as a hard cover would replicate these books from the Victorian Era. I have also decided to look at how other artists have decided to approach The Language of Flowers and this was what I found.

Out of all of the book covers that I have come across, I loved the way the third book looked as it was so delicately done, it held a sense of sophistication to it which would lend itself perfectly as the higher class were the first group of people who started to use the Language of Flowers back in the Victorian Era. Therefore for my booklet cover, I wanted to use some sort of typography and collaging.
