Printing and Stamping on Tracing Paper

As I want my editorial to be printed on tracing paper to replicate the texture of the paper flowers are often wrapped in, and to give the booklet an overall delicate touch, I have decided to also create a title page that would be inserted before the editorial. I decided to stamp my own title page instead of printing it as I wanted the booklet overall to look handmade and sincere like the cards and letters that often accompanies the roses.

As I was creating the title page, I was noticing that ink causes my stamps to be quite slippery on the tracing paper as there weren't enough texture on the paper therefore I decided to do a sample on a little slip of tracing paper to see what I can do to minimise smudging my inks. I first did a stamp, with just ink , which was a bit smudged as the stamp shifted slightly when pressed on the tracing paper. However, when I went to stamp a second time without ink the stamp any further, the stamp did go on with less slipping. Unfortunately, there were considerably less ink therefore the letters appeared quite transparent and therefore was not the effect I was looking for. The trial and error took a few tries however in the end, I have decided to tape the tracing paper down to prevent it from moving whilst I stamp down, and to stamp from directly above and not at an angle. In addition to these techniques, I have also decided to spray a clear matt varnish over the top of the tracing paper to give it a bit of tooth, preventing the ink from sliding as much. It took a few tries but finally I got it work out quite well.

Thankfully, printing on tissue paper didn't create as much trouble for me. However, because initially I didn't experiment with layout, I got the placing incorrect therefore I had to reprint the pages in the right order.

I really enjoyed working with tracing paper and I really liked how the medium seems to add a touch of delicacy to my work therefore I would love to incorporate this medium in my project four as well.
