Another idea I had was to incorporate only photographs within my editorial as I feel that in some contexts, photographs do work better in conveying the message. I also felt that because the pictures I have taken over the summer were so rich in colour, it had to potential to look very nice against the monochromatic colour scheme of the text.
With this idea i mind , I started to find magazines or online editorials that I liked the look of.
I really likes these layouts as they balanced negative space with quite busy photographs really well. I've always liked it when magazines include a significant amount of negative space as it allows me to not feel overwhelmed by the amount of writing. Another thing that makes the use of negative space very effective for me is that it emphasises the importance of the photograph and allow people to really examine closely the photograph without getting distracted.
Another series of layouts from the same magazine that I really liked were these double spreads that only contained a large photograph that sandwiches a double spread of text in between them. The reason why these spreads appealed so much to me was how even though they were in the same magazine as the editorial above, just by adding a different colour, they ended up having a totally different feel compared to the editorial above and therefore suggests that this editorial is of a different subject. What I really loved was how they only used one shade of pink throughout these spreads to link the spreads together without having to add any unnecessary visual information.
Continuing on with the idea of having just a photograph or photographs on a double spread, I also really like these layouts as one of them gives of quite a genuine, more personal feel and the other gives off a much more polished and clean looking feel just because of how they were placed on the spread.
