After a talk from Matthew on the use of text, script and sound , we decided to sit down and create a brainstorm of what we plan to create by the end of this task. We decided to use our instalment as a duration of time, a timeline if you will, in order to represent the events in the book. During our first ever workshop on Lord of the Flies , we have picked up that Golding was very adamant on describing the sound to the viewers therefore we have decided to also include sound within the instalment. Because the chapter titles were very descriptive as they were, we decided to allocate 3 chapters to each group member in hopes of finding more events that maybe weren't so obvious but still crucial to the plot line.

I was allocated the first 3 chapters therefore I went online to read spark notes on these chapters and created a rough brainstorm of what I wanted to create.

At first I found it quite difficult to pick and choose which videos or audios to use within my video. I stumbled across a speech by Winston Churchill that was titled "We shall fight on the beaches", which I though was amazing as the first chapters took place on a beach however, after listening to the speech, I realised that the speech was not exciting enough for my liking and wanted something more urgent, aggressive. I then went on to find the announcement audio clip from The Purge , a movie based around the idea of an annual event in America where all crime is legal for 12 hours. I decided to use this audio in the end as I really liked how urgent and creepy the alarm was and by using it, people watching the instalment can feel a sense of an upcoming threat.
I also decided to use a 1940's British advert on evacuating children during the war as it was perfect for setting the era and opening mood of the novel. I really liked how optimistic the advert was and the up-beat audio within the ad.
As in the beginning of The Lord of the Flies, an evacuation aircraft was shot down, using this video was just perfect and when coupled with the sound of the plane crash, I was able to create a very strong narrative with just the audio.
On Wednesday, my group and I met up to put up the installation and combined our videos.
At first we wanted to project the video onto a series of huts similar to the ones we created in our Displaying workshop however, I wanted something that suggested the era in which the novel is set therefore we went and searched for any possible propaganda from the 1940's that maybe relevant to our novel.
Besides from these propaganda, there was not very much available therefore we decided to go on to look for any news articles on evacuating children , plane crashes and missing children in hopes of representing the background story of the novel. We then tested out to see how our video would look projected on our background and decided that there were simply not enough news articles and therefore we printed out more.

We then went on to creating flies out of paper and paper cutouts of boys and significant objects within the story to create an even surface in which the projected video would be clearly seen on.
Apart from hanging some from the ceiling, I also wanted some to partially obscure the articles and any photographs therefore I decided to make small paper tubes which allowed me to stick flies to the articles at varying height therefore creating interesting looking shadows.
