Early analysis and breaking down of the text made me think more about what really is being addressed throughout the story and what are the key elements worth noting.
Schizophrenia is a mental disorder characterized by abnormal social behavior and failure to understand what is real.
Anna :
Anna Richards
Perfectly ordinary middle-class background
English Degree
Had a flamboyant psychotic breakdown
Young schizophrenic woman
middle-aged charity shop twin set
sat erect on a plastic chair
fluidly elegant motions with her skinny arms
quick-bitten fingers
as if drawing on water
Anna becomes and object observed by Dr Mutki and Dr Busner - loses touch with her human side
Dr Busen Figured out how to ‘use’ her in the end like how someone figures out how to use a new device
Interaction with Mutki:
Pointing vigorously at Mutki, who, with ‘deft choreography’ brought his face within a foot of hers
psychiatric tweed jacket
Interesting Quotes:
‘Regrouped in the corner of the treatment room…two mismatched soul doctors”
‘dead mouse of his herbal teabag’
’self-satisfied little moue’
‘nightmarish alacrity only witnessed in imperfectly constructed works’
‘a triangle of bread as white as dead’
‘ghastly Terylene nightdress, performing her odd arabesques’
‘mosh-pit of lunchtime central london’
‘moist amphibian lips dripped with distaste of the word’
The fact that Anna is now know as iAnna suggests that Anna has lost her humane side as has now been reduced into a machine/android
